Forum Rules

Registration to this forum is free! We do insist that you abide by the rules and policies detailed below. If you agree to the terms, please check the 'I agree' checkbox and press the 'Register' button below. If you would like to cancel the registration, click here to return to the forums index.

Welcome to PhilMUG.PH. Please take a moment to review these rules detailed below. You are required to abide and agree with all terms set below in order to participate in our community. Failure to do so will result in the board's administration taking further action as they see fit.
  • You acknowledge that PhilMUG may delete your account from our system if it has not been used within six months, and has less than ten posts, at our own discretion.
  • If you find any post or topic in which any rules here are being broken, please report the offending content by using the REPORT link featured in this forum as soon as possible.
1. Posting
A. General Etiquette:
  • Try to keep the focus on Apple or Mac related. Whilst we will tolerate some level of non-Apple content, the focus of this site should be Mac and Mac-related topics. Content or posts deemed too far from the site's main focus may be removed or closed at the discretion of the staff. Special mention to Political and Religious topics, these are not allow here. There are many other forums specifically for political and religious debates, this is not one of them.
  • Use the Search Forums feature before you post your topic. Your question or comment may have already been discussed, answered, or resolved. Also please give some thought to which forum your topic logically belongs before posting. Check the Index page first and choose the most appropriate forum your topic.
  • Create a concise subject for your topic that adequately summarizes your topic. It should be a super-short summary of the question/issue or comment. Do not announce that you have a question — we already know that, because you wouldn't be posting otherwise. Do not mark your subject with any emphasis like "Need help!", "Please!" "Urgent!", etc. That is just noise that reduces your chances of people reading your thread.
Good title: "iTunes error on launch"
    Bad titles: "Help! iTunes problem!!"
  • Help others. This forum is made for the Mac users community, and works best when people share information and assist one another to the best of their abilities.
  • Keep Threads On Topic/No Thread Hijacking We like to have fun in the PhilMUG forums, but not at the expense of getting people's questions answered, so staying on topic is somewhat relative - as long as the original poster's question is answered in a timely fashion, some straying off topic will be tolerated, but it will always be discouraged if it comes at the expense of helping each other and getting questions answered and problems solved.
  • Double-posting (or cross-posting) the same post (or similar posts) in different forums will cause confusion and most likely reduce chances or receiving a valid resolution for the topic. These kind of posts will be deleted immediately with or without any warning.
  • Unnecessary Posting, Posting just to raise your post count (or post padding) will not be tolerated in any form. If you think you will get more respect having more posts, you are mistaken. If an Admin or Moderator deems you are abusing your account in this manner, your post count will be zeroed. (Post padding is when you post messages back to back that could have been easily in 1 post or when you have innocuous conversations back and forth with minimal post material or content or even minimal word content for that matter.) Please use the Private Message system for such conversations
  • "Bumping" or replying to your own posts or older topics is frowned upon - only post in old topics or reply to your own posts if it furthers the topic of discussion, and the post's content warrants the topic being revived. Unnecessary "Bumping" of sale item/s in the Marketplace forum will result to deletion of the whole thread and all posts inside it.[/B]
  • Use coherent English, where possible. Whilst it is understandable that English is not the first language of many of our users here, PhilMUG requests that users try, wherever possible, to use English, such that all other users may be able to understand the discussion. Further to this, Text Speak is very much frowned upon (e.g: Txt Spk hs bn pplrzd by clfon usrs to cmunc8 wt ech otr usng trmd & shr8d wrds. Avd usng Txt Spk n d frm as 8 wil only cr8 cnfsn.)
  • Be constructive. If you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all. Constructive criticism is welcome, derogatory comments are not.
  • Be tolerant, understanding and respectful of other people's point of view. If you strongly disagree or are upset over somebody's posting, simply respond by stating your point of view. Do NOT censure or ridicule others for their beliefs, opinions or views. Please also take into account the difficulty many people have in expressing their precise feelings and emotions in a written message.
B. Posts deemed "pointless" by staff will be removed at their own discretion. This may include, but is not limited to:
  • Posts having little or no relation to the topic of discussion
  • Posts with minimal content (for example, posting "thanks" "nice idol!" "cool desktop" is frowned upon, unless accompanied with further detail - if you wish to thank a member, please use the PM system instead.

2. illegal Activities or Content
Posts relating to Piracy, "patched/cracked", Warez, File Sharing Methods (P2P) of any softwares, their website names, links or even ask opinions directly or indirectly pointing to them is not allowed in the forums This also includes unofficial unlocking, jailbreaking discussions about the iPhone or the iPod Touch. All piracy/jailbreaking/unlocking related posts will be deleted immediately with or without notification.
3. Posting Images in the forum:
  • All inline images must be less than 800 pixels wide, and less than 600 pixels high. If your linked images are larger, your post will be edited, removing the offending image link.

4. Photo "Gallery" Threads:
As of this time, the Administrators are allowing these kinds of threads to be posted in the iPhotography Forum only. Please be reminded that PhilMUG is a Mac-Users Group, not a photography group. There are other local community forums available that specializes in photography such as DPP and PiPho to share your photos and ask for critiques.
  • Do not use these threads as a chat room/IM venue. Proper infractions will be given for unnecessary chatter.
  • Refrain from posting one-liner comments like"Wow. Master!", "Ang Galing in iDol!", "Cool Picture!" and the like. Meaningful or more substantial comments are more welcome though. (I like your shot because of the color blah, blah, etc.) Infractions may be given, and one-liner comments will be deleted.
  • Please avoid cross-posting photos. Members are urged to use the Report feature if they see a member cross posting images. Infraction will be given counting to cross posting violation.
  • If you are posting images in the iPhotography forum, you are required to include settings used for that shot. Most replies will definitely ask for it sooner or later anyway.

5. Signatures and Avatars: A common ground rule is to keep a signature smaller than a typical post.
  • Forum signature sizes should remain decent sized and be thoughtful of other members; general rule for signatures: less than 500 pixels width and 50 pixels high, including all text and images. Further to this, the combined size of all images in signatures may be no more than 50KiB
  • Please limit your signature block size to no more than 3 lines
  • Keep your signature and avatar in good taste: no vulgarity or profanity.
  • Images/Animation should be kept to a minimum and both your signature and avatar shouldn't be too distracting.
  • If you don't want to use an image in your signature, you can have up to 3 lines of text (with a maximum font size of 2).
  • Must not contain text or links advertising of sale items or looking for items.
  • If you wish to use your signature as a profile or a list of your Apple items (which is perfectly normal), please limit your list to relevant items (directly related to this forum) and only to those devices that you REALLY use.
  • Do not include spam, harrassing links or affiliate links in your signature. However, we will not object to you posting links to either your personal websites or other commercial projects which you support.
If a signature is found to violating these rules, we will remove the said signature and replace it with a message regarding it's removal. Furthermore, signature/avatar content may be removed if it is deemed inappropriate by staff.
6. MarketPlace Disclaimer
All trading transactions (For Sale/Looking For) - available only to active members, will only be allowed in the Marketplace forum. PhilMUG takes no responsibility for all transactions that takes place between consenting parties in the Marketplace Section. We DO NOT verify sellers or buyers and will not intercede on either the buyer or seller's behalf. We advise all members to use caution when conducting private transactions. We do offer an iTrader (eBay) style Feedback in each member's profile, it helps prospective trading partners buy and sell with confidence inside the forum.
Lurkers are NOT allowed to create For Sale (FS) or Looking For (LF) threads in the Marketplace, be it in the Apple Branded, 3rd Party, or Jobs section. Also, Newbies are still NOT allowed to sell third-party items. Both lurkers and newbies are required to participate substantially in the Mac forums before they will be allowed to sell third-party items.
7. Social Groups
This is a new feature that we included in the latest forum upgrade and redesign. We are opening dedicated forum for groups our members can create that have a common interest. A Social Group and its dedicated forum can be removed and deleted without notice, at the discretion of the Administrators.
8. Infraction System
The infraction system is a feature of the forum that allows the staff to exercise forum moderation and maintain the forum rules listed here in a fair and quick way. If you gather too many infraction points, you will be prevented from using the forum for a certain amount of time (the levels are 3 days, 7 days, 9 days and then permanently). You can read more information about our forum set Infractions here.
9. Disputes with staff members:
Administrators' and moderators' decisions are absolute and final. Do not dispute a decision publicly with members of staff. Any posts found to be disputing decisions made by staff members will be closed and/or removed. If you feel, however, that a decision is unjust or unfair, please contact the Administrator directly.
